analyze causes
Analyzing causes, how does it work?
Analyses increase your understanding of risks. The questions below help you to perform cause analyses.
How important is a risk?
The likelihood of occurrence contributes to the importance of a risk. It indirectly determines the priority of a risk. The higher the likelihood of occurrence the more important the associated risk.
What causes are the most important?
If a risk has a number of causes, a good start is to influence and monitor the cause that has the most impact or the highest likelihood. The same is true if you look at the overall list of causes in a project.
How are causes intertwined?
Different causes that are closely related to each other, often share a common problem or project aspect that is not well controlled. A few targeted interventions can make a big difference in such a situation.
How can you influence a cause?
If a risk has causes that can’t be influenced, or only with a lot of effort, you need to focus your attention on the effects of that risk. However if you find ways to influence a cause you hold the key to a successful response.
